Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X review: the Curv look for less

The Qrevo Curv S5X keeps the rounded dock, strong suction, anti-tangle brushes and FlexiArm edge cleaning of the Qrevo Curv, but drops the camera, the climbing chassis and some battery. In my testing it was an excellent mopper on hard floors, but only average on carpet and too easily caught on cables.

My verdict: is the Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X worth it?

The Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X is the sensible way into the Curv family. It keeps what most people notice day to day: strong suction, brushes that don't tangle, an extending side brush and mop, and a dock that washes pads at 167°F and dries them. It gives up the camera, the 1.6-inch climbing chassis and some battery capacity.

After testing it, mopping is the reason to buy it. The spinning pads and extending mop left hard floors and edges properly clean, and the dock took the dirty work off my hands. Carpet cleaning and cable avoidance are its weak spots. If your home is mostly hard floor and you keep cables off the ground, it is an easy recommendation.

First impressions of the Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X

Out of the box, the S5X looks almost identical to the Qrevo Curv.

It has the same soft, rounded dock and the same white robot with a LiDAR turret.

The differences are underneath and inside, which is exactly how Roborock keeps the price down.

The robot measures about 13.9 × 13.9 × 3.9 inches and weighs around 8.8 pounds.

The dock is the bigger commitment. It weighs almost 22 pounds empty, so measure your spot before you buy, especially in a small apartment.

Inside the dock are a roughly 1-gallon clean-water tank, a 0.8-gallon dirty-water tank and a disposable dust bag.

What the Qrevo Curv S5X actually is

The Qrevo Curv S5X is a robot vacuum and mop with a multifunction dock.

It has up to 18,500 Pa of HyperForce suction and a DuoDivide main brush that splits in the middle to send hair into the bin.

A FlexiArm Arc side brush and FlexiArm edge mop extend automatically to reach corners and baseboards.

Navigation uses LiDAR plus structured-light Reactive Tech obstacle avoidance, which works in any lighting.

Two spinning mop pads turn at up to 200 RPM and lift about 0.4 inches when the robot detects carpet.

Qrevo Curv S5X vs Qrevo Curv: what changes

According to Roborock, the two models share the same suction, anti-tangle brushes, FlexiArm edge cleaning and 167°F hot-water dock.

The S5X drops the RGB camera, so it relies on LiDAR and structured light alone.

Its threshold climbing tops out at 0.8 inches, versus 1.2 inches standard and 1.6-inch double thresholds on the Curv.

The battery is 5,200 mAh instead of 6,400 mAh.

Only the mop lifts on carpet, while the Curv lifts its brush too.

On the plus side, the S5X is about 0.2 inches slimmer, which can help under low furniture.

Roborock rates it for 0.8 inches, but real-world results depend on the shape of the threshold and the floor on either side.

One owner on Reddit found a 0.6-inch threshold fine but needed a small ramp for a 0.8-inch drop. Treat 0.8 inches as the ceiling, not a guarantee.

The dock: what it does for you

The Multifunctional Dock 3.0 charges the robot, empties its dustbin into a disposable bag and refills its water tank.

It washes the mop pads in water heated up to 167°F and then dries them with warm air, which keeps them cleaner and stops them smelling.

In daily use that means no rinsing and drying pads by hand after every run.

It does not remove the work entirely. You still refill the clean tank, empty the dirty one and, every so often, pull out the dock’s base tray and clean off the grime that collects there.

Tip: measure first. The dock weighs almost 22 pounds empty and takes up real floor space. Pick its spot before you order, especially in a small apartment.

Qrevo Curv S5X performance

Vacuuming

On hard floors the S5X handled everyday crumbs, dust and grit well, and it was especially good with hair.

The DuoDivide brush guided hair into the suction inlet instead of letting it wrap around the roller. Long-term durability is something no short test can prove, though.

Edges and corners were a strength, thanks to the side brush that swings out along walls.

Heavily soiled areas were the weak spot. On the default Smart cleaning pattern it sometimes left dirt behind. Switching to a more intensive pattern, running vacuum-only on MAX+ or scheduling two passes fixed that.

Tip: For entryways and kitchens, set a room to vacuum-only on MAX+ or schedule two passes. Use the Smart pattern for the rest of the home.

Carpet and rugs

Carpet is the S5X’s biggest weakness. It climbs onto low-pile rugs and carpets up to about 0.8 inches thick, but it does not pull dirt out of them as thoroughly as it cleans hard floors, and some areas needed more than one pass.

Light rugs and bath mats were a bigger problem. It pushed them around or got stuck on them and needed rescuing.

The mops lift about 0.4 inches on carpet, so rugs stay dry. But getting over a rug and deep-cleaning it are two different jobs.

Tip: Put light bath mats and thin rugs in a no-go zone, or pick them up before a run. It saves you from rescuing a stuck robot.

Mopping and edges

The spinning pads handle daily dirt and fresh spills, and the FlexiArm mop swings out along walls.

The FlexiArm side brush also extends into corners, which is a step up from most robots in this price range.

Mopping was the S5X’s strongest discipline in my testing.

The pads spin at up to 200 RPM, so they scrub the floor rather than drag a damp cloth around. With 30 water-flow levels you can go lighter on wood and wetter on tile, and set each room differently.

The extending mop reached along baseboards and into corners that round robots usually leave untouched.

Tip: Start with a low water level on wood and parquet and go wetter only on tile. Set it per room in the app so you don’t have to switch every run.

Navigation and obstacles

LiDAR mapping is fast and accurate, and structured light helps the robot avoid larger obstacles in any lighting.

Without a camera, small items like cables and socks are harder for it to spot, so picking things up before a run helps.

In my home it steered around everyday obstacles well, including shoes, slippers, towels, table and chair legs, and curtains.

Cables were the clear weak point. USB-C chargers and extension cords got caught in the robot and sometimes left it stuck. Extended FlexiArm edge cleaning seemed to make snagging more likely.

Tip: tame your cables. If you work at a desk with cables on the floor, tidy them before a scheduled run or set a no-go zone around the desk. You may also want to turn off extended FlexiArm cleaning in that room.

How loud is the Qrevo Curv S5X?

I measured about 55 dB while mopping on low water flow and about 71 dB when vacuuming on MAX+.

Mopping, low55 dB
Vacuum, MAX+71 dB

Noise I measured in two modes. The auto-empty cycle is louder but short.

The auto-empty cycle is noticeably louder, but it lasts less than a minute after each run.

The battery is 5,200 mAh, smaller than the Qrevo Curv’s 6,400 mAh. Roborock says it charges faster than older models such as the S7, but I did not run a full runtime test.

Maintenance: what you still have to do

The dock handles most of the routine dust and mop cleaning, so upkeep is light.

  1. After every run

Nothing. The dock empties the bin, washes the pads and dries them.

  2. Every few runs

Refill the clean-water tank and empty the dirty-water tank.

  3. Now and then

Pull out and clean the dock’s base tray, wipe the sensors and check the brushes and wheels.

  4. About every seven weeks

Swap the dust bag, depending on how dirty your floors are and how often it runs.

A dust bag lasted up to about seven weeks for me, depending on how dirty the floors were and how often it ran. The two bags in my box should cover roughly three to four months, but bundles vary by market, so check what yours includes.

Bags, filters, brushes and mop pads are consumables, so budget for them. The app tracks wear and tells you when a part is due.

Tip: Order spare dust bags and a set of mop pads when you buy the robot, so a full bag never stops a scheduled run.

The Roborock app

Setup is simple and takes four steps.

  1. 01Install the appDownload the Roborock app on your phone.
  2. 02Connect to Wi-FiPair the robot with your home network.
  3. 03Create an accountSet up a Roborock account in the app.
  4. 04Map your homeLet it run a mapping pass, then name rooms and add no-go zones.

You can name rooms, set no-go zones and schedules, and choose suction, water flow, cleaning route and mop-washing frequency per room.

Modes cover vacuum-only, mop-only and vacuum and mop together, plus repeat passes and spot cleaning for dirty patches.

There is no built-in voice assistant, but it works with Alexa and Google Assistant.

There is no camera either. It still uses LiDAR and sensors to find its way, but some buyers will prefer a robot without a camera driving around their home.

Is the Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X worth the money?

The Qrevo Curv S5X usually sells for less than the Qrevo Curv.

For a small or medium home with mostly hard floors, you lose very little in daily use by choosing it.

If you have high thresholds or want camera-based obstacle recognition, the full Qrevo Curv is worth the extra. If your home is mostly carpet, look at a different model or keep a regular vacuum for those rooms.

Before you buyIs the S5X right for your home?

It is a good match if you can say yes to most of these: mostly hard floors, cables kept off the floor, thresholds of 0.8 inches or less, and room for a dock that weighs almost 22 pounds.

How I tested and scored the Roborock Qrevo Curv S5X

I tested the S5X in an apartment with mostly hard floors, a few rugs and bath mats, and a desk area with cables on the floor. I used vacuum-only, mop-only and combined modes, compared the Smart pattern with more intensive cleaning, and measured noise in different modes. I also read owner reports on Reddit to check things like threshold climbing.

I scored four areas, and each gets its own subscore.

  • Vacuuming (7.9): pickup on hard floors, rugs and carpet, including pet hair.
  • Mopping (8.7): everyday dirt, dried stains and edge coverage.
  • Navigation (7.5): mapping, thresholds and obstacle avoidance.
  • Dock and upkeep (8.4): how much of the maintenance the dock takes over, and what is left for you.

The overall score is an editorial rating. I also checked Roborock's published specifications and compared them with independent test results and other Roborock models.
