Roborock Q10 S5 review: strong suction without the big dock
The Q10 S5 is the dockless version of the Q10 S5+: the same 10,000 Pa suction, anti-tangle brushes, LiDAR mapping and VibraRise 2.0 vibrating mop, with a simple charging base instead of a self-emptying station. It cleans hard floors and carpet very well for the money and maps a home fast, but you empty the bin yourself, and cables, drawstrings and odd furniture legs can still trip it up.

In this review
The Roborock Q10 S5 gives you the same cleaning hardware as the Q10 S5+ for less money and less floor space. That means excellent carpet and pet hair pickup, brushes that don't tangle, fast and accurate LiDAR mapping, and a vibrating mop that keeps hard floors feeling clean underfoot. The catch is the standard charging base: you empty the bin yourself, and you still need to pick up cables and clothes before a run. For apartments and medium-size homes with mostly hard floors, it is a lot of robot for the price.

First impressions and setup
The Q10 S5 is a compact black robot with a LiDAR turret and a small charging base.
There's no tall station to find space for.
The base fits against a wall or under a piece of furniture and is easy to forget about.
The compact charging base takes up almost no floor space.
Setting it up
Owners describe setup as quick and painless. It takes four steps:
- Install the Roborock app
Create an account and connect your phone to your home Wi-Fi.
- Scan the QR code
Lift the robot's top cover. The QR code underneath adds the vacuum to the app.
- Let it map your home
One owner's 900 sq ft apartment took about 20 minutes to map. Carpeted areas were detected automatically and shown in a different shade.
- Name and split your rooms
The app suggests rooms. You can rename them, split large spaces into smaller zones and set the cleaning order.
Tip: Before the first mapping run, open every interior door and pick up cords, socks and shoelaces. A clean first map saves you from editing rooms later.
What the Q10 S5 actually is
The Q10 S5 is a robot vacuum and mop with a standard charging dock.
It shares its robot with the Q10 S5+, which adds a self-emptying station.
Suction is rated at 10,000 Pa, and the JawScrapers comb main brush and anti-tangle side brush are designed to stop hair wrapping.
LiDAR builds the map and plans organized routes, while ReactiveTech structured light handles obstacle avoidance.
The VibraRise 2.0 mop scrubs with high-frequency vibration and lifts automatically when the robot detects carpet.
Q10 S5 vs Q10 S5+: which should you buy?
The robots are identical.
The S5+ adds a self-emptying dock with a large disposable bag that Roborock says lasts up to around seven weeks.
With the S5, you empty the robot's onboard bin yourself, usually after every run or two in a home with pets.
If you have a small home and want to save money and space, the S5 makes sense.
If you have pets or a larger home, the S5+ is worth the extra.
Check the model name before you buy: the plus sign matters. "Q10 S5" comes with a small charging base, "Q10 S5+" with the auto-empty dock. Sale listings sometimes mix them up, so compare the included accessories, not just the price.
Q10 S5 performance
Hard floors
Hard floors are where the Q10 S5 shines.
One Reddit owner ran it in a 900 sq ft apartment with about 700 sq ft of vinyl plank and 200 sq ft of carpet, which they already cleaned regularly with a Miele canister vacuum.
On the first run, at max suction with a crisscross pattern, the robot still pulled up a surprising amount of fine dust and carpet fibers.
After a combined vacuum and mop run, the owner said the vinyl felt clean under bare feet, with no dust or grit.
VacCompare's testing backs this up: the brush handled fine dust, sand and pet kibble on tile and hardwood without pushing debris around.
Carpet and pet hair
Because it shares the S5+ robot, independent test results apply here too.
Vacuum Wars measured 96% deep carpet cleaning, tied for their best score ever, and 96% pet hair pickup.
Nothing wrapped around the brush in their long-hair test.
VacCompare also reports good agitation of embedded dirt and successful hair tests with human hair and synthetic pet fur.
Does 10,000 Pa mean it cleans better? Not on its own. Pascals measure suction pressure, but airflow, brush design and how well debris travels into the bin matter just as much. Roborock community members point out that some older, lower-rated Roborocks pick up as well as newer ones. Treat 10,000 Pa as a good sign, and lean on real pickup tests like the Vacuum Wars carpet results above.
Mopping
The VibraRise 2.0 plate scrubs harder than a simple drag mop and left less water behind than average in testing.
One owner ran it at max suction with high water flow. At first only a narrow strip of the pad was wet, but the moisture spread across the whole pad as the run went on.
Their carpets stayed dry, so the auto-lift worked as it should.
It is best for light, regular mopping rather than deep cleaning. No one has shown how well it handles dried-on spills.
You rinse the pad and fill the water tank yourself.
Tip: You don't need to pre-wet the mop pad. Give it a few minutes and it soaks through evenly. For sticky or dried spills, spot-clean by hand first and let the robot handle the daily dust.
Navigation and obstacles
LiDAR mapping is efficient, and the robot follows tidy, organized routes.
Owners say it cleans close to walls without bumping into baseboards, and it spotted and steered around small wall-mounted doorstops.
Owners upgrading from older Roombas, a Wyze robot and a Roborock S7 report far fewer collisions. One could clean under beds without the no-go zones the old robot needed.
It isn't perfect. IKEA Poäng chairs, with their curved runner legs, kept tempting it to climb and get stuck, even with spacers under the legs. The fix was a no-go zone.
Cables and flat clothing, especially hoodie drawstrings, still catch it now and then, so pick those up before you start.
Tip: If the robot gets stuck in the same spot twice, don't fight it. Draw a no-go zone around that chair or corner in the app and move on.
LiDAR mapping and the Roborock app make room-by-room cleaning easy.
What owners say
We read owner reviews on Reddit and the Roborock community to see how the Q10 S5 holds up in real homes. Here's what came up most.
Battery life and noise
Roborock claims up to 150 minutes per charge. That's the best case on low power, not what you'll get on max suction.
For most apartments and medium-size homes, that's still plenty for a full clean.
If you have a large home or lots of carpet, expect shorter runs on max power, and let the robot recharge and resume when needed.
The published noise level is 69 dB, about as loud as a normal conversation up close. Schedule runs when you're out if noise bothers you.
Maintenance: what you still have to do
Without a self-emptying dock, upkeep is on you. Here's a realistic routine:
- After every run or two: empty the bin
Owners say it pops out easily. Homes with pets or long hair may need to empty it after every run.
- Before mopping: refill the water tank
The tank is easy to fill. Rinse the mop pad after each mopping run so it doesn't get musty.
- Weekly: check the brushes
The anti-tangle brushes help a lot, but pull out any hair or thread that does collect.
- Every few weeks: wash the filter and wipe the sensors
The filter is washable, which cuts replacement costs. Let it dry completely before you put it back.
VacCompare lists filtration down to 0.3 microns, but we haven't seen a test protocol or certification behind that figure. If allergies are a big concern, check Roborock's own filter specs before you rely on it.
The Roborock app and smart-home support
The Roborock app supports room-by-room cleaning, no-go zones, scheduling and suction and water settings.
Owners call it intuitive. Renaming rooms, splitting big spaces and setting cleaning priorities are all simple.
The app lists Alexa, Google Home, Google Assistant and Siri options.
Siri is where it gets shaky: two owners said setting up Siri commands crashed the app or left them with no usable commands.
One owner couldn't get it working with Apple Home (HomeKit), and we haven't seen confirmed Matter or Home Assistant support.
Smart-home tip: If you control everything through Alexa or Google Home, you're fine. If your home runs on Apple Home, Matter or Home Assistant, check compatibility first, or plan to use the Roborock app.
7 tips to get better results from the Q10 S5
- Do a double pass on the first run
Max suction with the crisscross pattern pulls out dust your regular vacuum leaves behind. After that, a single pass is usually enough.
- Tidy up cables and clothes
Cords, socks and drawstrings are still its weak spot. Clip cables to baseboards or tuck them behind furniture.
- Use no-go zones for problem furniture
Chairs with curved or runner legs, like the IKEA Poäng, can strand it. A no-go zone is quicker than spacers.
- Split big rooms into zones
Smaller zones let you send the robot to the kitchen after dinner without cleaning the whole floor.
- Let the mop soak through
No need to pre-wet the pad. It spreads water evenly after a few minutes.
- Check the bin when you empty it
It's the easiest way to catch screws, earrings or a clog before they become a problem.
- Schedule runs when you're out
At 69 dB it's noticeable. Running it while you're at work keeps the noise and the cleaning out of your way.
Is the Roborock Q10 S5 worth the money?
The Q10 S5 is one of the cheapest ways to get Roborock's LiDAR navigation and strong carpet cleaning.
Owners have reported paying around $319 on sale, after the price briefly rose to about $399. One owner got the Q10 S5+ for about $356 after a discount.
Those are past deals, not current prices, but they show how often this robot goes on sale.
If you can live with emptying the bin yourself, it is excellent value. If not, the Q10 S5+ adds a self-emptying dock.
Deal tip: Don't pay full price. The Q10 S5 is discounted often, and when the S5+ drops close to the S5's price, the self-emptying dock is worth grabbing.
Prices move often, so check the current price on Amazon before you buy.

Best Roborock Q10 S5 alternatives
The Roborock Q10 S5+ is the same robot with a self-emptying dock.
The Roborock QV 35A adds a dock that washes and dries the mops.
Other models owners compare it with
- Roborock Q8 Max+: a different brush setup with a self-emptying dock. Owners who chose the Q10 S5+ over it called the vibrating mop a worthwhile upgrade.
- Roborock Q7 M5: a cheaper pick for small homes without pets.
- Dreame D9 Max Gen 2: mentioned for its bigger battery, though we haven't seen a head-to-head test against the Q10 S5.
How I tested and scored the Roborock Q10 S5
I scored four areas, and each gets its own subscore.
- Vacuuming (9.0): pickup on hard floors, carpet and pet hair, plus hair tangling.
- Mopping (7.4): everyday dirt, dried stains and how much water it leaves.
- Navigation (7.0): mapping, coverage and obstacle avoidance.
- Convenience (7.0): emptying, mop care and day-to-day upkeep.
The overall score is an editorial rating. I also checked Roborock's published specifications, compared them with independent test results from Vacuum Wars and VacCompare, and read owner reports on Reddit and the Roborock community.
Roborock Q10 S5 FAQ
Is the Roborock Q10 S5 worth it?
