My verdict: Roborock Q7 M5+ or Q10 S5+?

For most homes I would pick the Roborock Q10 S5+. It pulled far more embedded dirt out of carpet in lab testing, it did not wrap a single strand of long hair, its vibrating mop lifts over rugs, and its bigger battery covers more floor per charge. The Roborock Q7 M5+ still makes sense if you live with mostly hard floors and want the stronger stain scrubber of the two, as long as you are fine clipping the mop pad on and off by hand. Be aware that neither robot avoids small clutter well, so plan on picking up cables and socks before each run.

Design, dock and build

Unbox these two side by side and you would be forgiven for mixing them up. Both are round robots with a LiDAR turret on top, a single side brush, a main brush with an anti-tangle comb and a slim self-empty dock.

The Q7 M5+ is the older design, an upgrade of the popular Q7 Max line. The Q10 S5+ is a newer model that adds a vibrating mop, a bigger battery and a small front sensor for obstacles.

Roborock Q10 S5+ robot vacuum and mop

The Q10 S5+ looks a lot like the Q7 M5+, but it hides a vibrating mop and a bigger battery.

Both robots measured about 3.9 inches tall in testing, so neither gets under furniture the other cannot reach. The Q7 M5+ is a little smaller across at roughly 12.8 inches, while the Q10 S5+ is closer to 13.9 inches wide.

The docks are almost twins. Both measured about 8.3 to 8.4 inches wide, 7 inches deep and 10.2 inches tall, which is tiny compared to the tall stations on premium robots.

That small footprint is one of my favorite things about both robots. You can tuck the dock beside a couch or under a side table, and it never looks like an appliance has moved into your living room.

Tip: Give either dock a wall behind it and about 1.5 feet of clear floor in front. A cramped dock is the most common reason a budget robot circles around looking for home.

Suction and everyday vacuuming

Roborock rates both robots at exactly 10,000Pa of suction. If you stopped at the spec sheet, you would call this round a draw.

The lab told a different story. When the same lab measured suction at the cleaning head, the Q10 S5+ hit 3.8 kPa, the fourth highest reading out of more than 150 robots tested. The Q7 M5+ reached 2.24 kPa, which is still well above average, but it is a clear step behind.

Airflow followed the same pattern. The Q10 S5+ moved about 17 CFM against roughly 11 CFM for the Q7 M5+.

Roborock Q10 S5+ vacuuming carpet

Carpet is where the Q10 S5+ pulls ahead of its sibling.

Those numbers showed up on the carpet too. In the deep clean test, where sand is worked into medium-pile carpet, the Q10 S5+ removed 96%, tied for the best score that lab has ever recorded.

The Q7 M5+ removed 75%, which is exactly average. A second lab saw the same split, rating the Q10 S5+ far higher on carpet and noting that the Q7 M5+ was better with larger crumbs like cereal and rice than with fine sand.

On hard floors the gap closes. Both robots swept up debris of all sizes, and the second lab found the Q7 M5+ almost tore through open floor space, picking up about 79% of its test mess in one pass.

My take: if you have carpet anywhere in your home, the Q10 S5+ is the better vacuum. If your floors are all wood, tile or vinyl, you would struggle to tell them apart.

Carpet tip: Turn on carpet boost in the app for either robot. Both raise suction automatically on carpet, but owners note it can take a couple of seconds to kick in, so a second pass on rugs helps.

Pet hair and tangles

This is the round that surprised me most. Both robots use the same family of anti-tangle brush, with a comb Roborock calls JawScrapers that sits above the main brush, yet they behaved like completely different machines.

In a seven-inch hair test, the Q10 S5+ finished with 0% of the hair wrapped around its brush. The average robot in that lab leaves about 38% tangled.

The Q7 M5+ wrapped 43% of the long hair, slightly worse than average. Testers in a second lab said it took a solid ten minutes to cut long fur off its brush without damaging the bristles.

Roborock Q7 M5+ anti-tangle brush

The Q7 M5+ has an anti-tangle comb, but long hair still wrapped in testing.

Flattened pet hair on carpet showed the same trend. The Q10 S5+ lifted about 96% of short hair pressed into carpet, while the Q7 M5+ managed 79%, close to the 81% average.

I do want to add one honest caveat. The second lab used a heavier clump-style pet hair test, and both robots struggled there, with the Q10 S5+ collecting about 36% and the Q7 M5+ about 26%.

So where does that leave a pet owner? The Q10 S5+ is clearly the better choice, especially for long hair, but neither robot replaces an upright vacuum during heavy shedding season.

Pet owner tip: Schedule a short daily run instead of one long weekly clean. Daily passes stop fur from packing into carpet, where both robots have a harder time.

Brush tip: Check the brush end caps every week, especially on the Q7 M5+. Hair builds up there first, and a quick snip keeps the motor from straining.

Mopping

Here the two robots take very different approaches, and the winner depends on your floors. Neither dock washes or dries the mop pad, so you will rinse it yourself either way.

The Q7 M5+ uses a single fixed pad that clips onto the back of the robot with a water tank. It does not lift, so for homes with carpet you run it in vacuum-only mode first, then attach the pad and send it out again for the hard floors.

The Q10 S5+ uses VibraRise 2.0, a single pad that vibrates to loosen dirt. When it senses carpet, it lifts the pad about 0.3 inch, so it can vacuum a rug and mop the floor around it in one run.

Roborock Q10 S5+ VibraRise mop lifting over a rug

The Q10 S5+ lifts its vibrating pad over rugs, so mixed floors get done in one run.

For pure scrubbing power, though, the Q7 M5+ won clearly. It scored 158 on dried-on stains against a lab average of 93, while the Q10 S5+ scored 103.

The second lab agreed. Testers found the Q7 M5+ handled dark, dried coffee stains with ease, while the Q10 S5+ left darker patches and a little sticky residue behind.

The catch is water. The Q7 M5+ left about twice the average amount of water on the floor, and that barely changed between water settings, which raises the risk of streaks and damp seams.

The Q10 S5+ left about half the average amount. On sealed hardwood or laminate, I would take that gentler touch over a little extra scrubbing power.

Hardwood tip: On the Q7 M5+, use the lowest water setting on wood floors and wring the pad well before you attach it. It cuts down on standing water.

Rug tip: Even with mop lift, draw no-mop zones around high-pile rugs and fringed runners in the app. It is the safest way to keep them dry.

Navigation and getting stuck

Both robots use a top-mounted LiDAR sensor, so both build a real floor plan with rooms, no-go zones and multi-floor maps. That alone puts them well above the bump-and-go robots in this price range.

They are also equally quick. In the same lab, the Q7 M5+ covered about 8.9 square feet per minute and the Q10 S5+ about 8.8, both above the 7.5 average.

Roborock Q7 M5+ LiDAR navigation

Top-mounted LiDAR gives both robots clean, efficient cleaning paths.

The Q7 M5+ was actually the more thorough of the two in a second lab, covering about 84% of the test area against 75% for the Q10 S5+. Testers liked its tight, overlapping lines, though it sometimes went back over spots that did not need it.

Obstacle avoidance is the weak spot for both. The Q7 M5+ has no front sensor at all, and testers saw it run over nearly everything left on the floor, including a fake pet mess it then got stuck on.

The Q10 S5+ adds a structured light sensor, but it avoided only 6 of 24 small obstacles against a 16.6 average. In the second lab it spotted about 40% of objects and still rolled over a simulated pet accident.

The Q7 M5+ climbs thresholds of up to about 0.8 inch, and owners of the Q10 S5+ describe it handling tall, bumpy doorways without help. If your home has a real step between rooms, check its height first.

Clutter tip: Do a quick pickup of cables, socks, toys and pet bowls before each run. With weak obstacle avoidance on both robots, this one habit prevents most rescues.

Pet tip: If you have a puppy or a sick pet, do not schedule either robot while you are away. Neither one reliably detects pet accidents.

Battery, charging and runtime

This is a clear win for the Q10 S5+. Roborock rates it for up to 250 minutes on its gentlest setting, with a battery listed at 5,200 mAh.

The Q7 M5+ is rated for up to 180 minutes, and its battery shrank to 3,200 mAh compared to the older Q7 Max. In lab testing it was slightly below average on runtime per percent of battery.

Thanks to efficient navigation, both still cover a decent home on one charge. The lab estimated about 1,243 square feet per charge for the Q10 S5+ and about 1,060 for the Q7 M5+.

Roborock Q7 M5+ returning to its auto-empty dock

Both robots head back to the dock to recharge, then resume where they left off.

Both support recharge and resume, so on a bigger floor plan they head home, top up and finish the job. Expect a full charge on the Q7 M5+ to take around four hours.

Charging tip: Schedule big whole-home runs for the morning after you leave. That gives either robot time to finish, recharge and resume before you are back.

Warranty tip: Keep your order confirmation and run the robot every day during the return window. Battery and sensor faults, when they happen, tend to show up early.

App, mapping and smart home

Both robots use the same Roborock app, and it is one of the best reasons to buy either. You get room editing, schedules, room-specific suction and water levels, no-go and no-mop zones, and a live view of the robot as it cleans.

Multi-floor mapping, child lock and Do Not Disturb come with both. Testers in both labs called the app clean, responsive and beginner-friendly.

Roborock Q10 S5+ controlled through the Roborock app

The same Roborock app runs both robots, with room-by-room control and no-mop zones.

The Q7 M5+ has one handy trick: you can switch off mopping in the app without removing the pad. The pad still drags along the floor, though, so I would still unclip it before a carpet run.

Both work with Alexa and Google Assistant. Both also connect only on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and a few owners describe a fiddly first setup, especially on routers that merge both bands under one name.

Wi-Fi tip: If setup fails, temporarily split your router’s 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, or create a guest network on 2.4 GHz only. Pair the robot, then switch everything back.

Setup tip: Let the robot update its firmware while it charges for the first time. Owners say it smooths out early app glitches.

Noise

Neither of these robots is loud while cleaning. In one lab, the Q7 M5+ measured about 56 dB on standard suction and the Q10 S5+ about 58 dB, roughly the hum of a refrigerator.

Owners of the Q7 M5+ call it very quiet more often than any other praise. Testers did notice that the Q10 S5+ makes an odd sputtering hum on startup and a high-pitched whine during quick turns.

The docks are another story. Both measured about 71 dB while emptying, and owners describe the sound as a short, sharp blast that you will hear from the next room.

Quiet tip: Use Do Not Disturb hours on either robot so the self-empty cycle never fires late at night.

Maintenance and running costs

Both docks empty the robot into a disposable bag of about 2.9 quarts, and Roborock says it lasts around seven weeks. That makes the bag swap identical on both.

The mop is where the work differs. On both robots you fill the water tank and rinse the pad by hand, but the Q7 M5+ also asks you to clip the pad on and off whenever you switch between carpet and hard floor runs.

Roborock Q7 M5+ robot vacuum and dock

The Q7 M5+ dock handles the dust, but the mop pad is all yours.

Brush care is the other big difference. On the Q10 S5+ I would expect a quick check every week or two, while the Q7 M5+ will likely need its brush cleared more often if anyone in your home has long hair.

Owners of the Q10 S5+ estimate spending a steady amount each year on official bags, filters, brushes and mop pads. The Q7 M5+ uses a similar set of parts, so running costs should be close.

Your maintenance checklist

Replace filters, side brushes, mop padsEvery few months

Independent lab results

The best part of this comparison is that one independent lab bought and tested both robots with the exact same methods. That means the numbers below can be compared directly.

I also checked a second lab that tested both robots side by side. Its scoring is different, so I use it to confirm patterns rather than to mix numbers.

Carpet deep clean

Q10 S5+96%
Q7 M5+75%
Lab average75%

Flattened pet hair pickup

Q10 S5+96%
Q7 M5+79%
Lab average81%

Long hair tangled on the brush

Q10 S5+0%
Q7 M5+43%

Higher is better for carpet and pet hair pickup, and lower is better for hair tangled. On dried-on stains, the order flips: the Q7 M5+ scored 158, the Q10 S5+ 103 and the lab average 93.

The pattern is clear. The Q10 S5+ is the much stronger vacuum, especially on carpet and hair, while the Q7 M5+ is the better scrubber on hard floors.

What owners say

The Q7 M5+ holds about a 4.1-star average across more than 20,000 ratings. The Q10 S5+ sits at about 4.0 stars from more than 8,100 ratings. Both listings group several colors and dock versions together, so treat these as broad signals.

Q10 S5+: fur and mud under controlPraise

Dog owners describe daily runs keeping fur and tracked-in mud in check, and many are delighted that it stops mopping on its own when it reaches a rug.

Q10 S5+: set and forgetPraise

Schedules, no-go zones and weeks between bag changes come up again and again from buyers upgrading from older robots.

Q10 S5+: reliability worriesComplaint

A noticeable group report units that stopped working within days, weeks or months, plus a robot that gets stuck daily in cluttered rooms.

Q7 M5+: quiet and easyPraise

Very quiet runs, good everyday cleaning and an easy setup are the most repeated themes in its reviews.

Q7 M5+: weaker on carpetComplaint

Some owners call it disappointing on carpet, and pet owners mention hair wrapping around the brush.

Both: a loud dockComplaint

Owners of both robots warn that the self-empty cycle is short but startlingly loud.

Reviews cannot tell you exactly how often a problem happens. They do show you what to test during your return window.

Which one should you buy?

After weighing everything, I think the answer comes down to one question: do you have carpet or long hair in your home? If yes, the choice makes itself.

Pick the Q10 S5+ for carpet, hair and one-run vacuuming and mopping. Pick the Q7 M5+ for stain-scrubbing on hard floors in a smaller, tidy home.

Our verdict

My pick is the Roborock Q10 S5+. It matched the Q7 M5+ on hard floors, crushed it on carpet and long hair, adds a mop that lifts over rugs and runs much longer on a charge. For the same compact dock and the same app, that is a lot of extra robot.

The Roborock Q7 M5+ is still a smart choice for tidy homes with mostly hard floors, where its strong stain removal and quiet running shine. Just expect more brush cleaning and more hands-on mop swaps.

Whichever you choose, clear the floor before each run, check the brush for hair every week and give the dock some breathing room.

How I researched and compared them

This is a researched comparison built on published data, not a long-term test in my own home.

I started from both Amazon listings and the manufacturer specifications, then read through the most helpful owner reviews for each robot. Between them they have more than 28,000 ratings, enough to spot patterns that a single test home would miss.

I leaned most on one independent lab that tested both robots with the same methods, so its numbers can be compared directly. I used a second lab to confirm the patterns, and I treat single owner reports as warning signs rather than proof.

  • Cleaning: hard floor pickup, carpet, pet hair and tangling.
  • Mopping: stain removal, water use and carpet protection.
  • Navigation: mapping, coverage speed, obstacles and docking.
  • Ownership: battery, noise, app, maintenance and long-term reliability.

Q7 M5+ vs Q10 S5+ FAQ

Is the Roborock Q10 S5+ better than the Q7 M5+?

For most homes, yes. It cleaned carpet far better in lab testing, wrapped no long hair, lifts its mop over rugs and runs longer per charge. The Q7 M5+ is better at scrubbing dried-on stains on hard floors.

Do both robots have the same suction?

Both are rated at 10,000Pa, but in independent testing the Q10 S5+ measured noticeably higher suction and airflow at the cleaning head.

Does the Q7 M5+ mop lift over carpet?

No. Its pad does not lift, so you run it in vacuum-only mode over carpet first, then attach the pad and mop the hard floors.

Which is better for pet hair?

The Q10 S5+. It picked up more flattened pet hair and wrapped no long hair in lab testing, while the Q7 M5+ wrapped 43%. Neither replaces an upright during heavy shedding.

Do the docks wash the mop pads?

No. Both docks only empty the dustbin into a disposable bag. You fill the water tank and rinse the mop pad yourself.

How often do I change the dock bag?

Roborock says the bag in either dock lasts about seven weeks, depending on how much debris your home produces.

Do they avoid cables and socks?

Not reliably. The Q7 M5+ has no front obstacle sensor, and the Q10 S5+ avoided only 6 of 24 small objects in testing. Pick up clutter before each run.

Which one is quieter?

The Q7 M5+, slightly. It measured about 56 dB while cleaning against about 58 dB for the Q10 S5+. Both docks are loud for a few seconds when they empty.

Do they work with 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

No. Both connect only on 2.4 GHz. If your router combines both bands under one name, split them temporarily during setup.
